How Many Bundles Do I Need?
Short answer: two up to 14″, two to three to 18″, three to 24″, and three to four above that. The reason is worth thirty seconds, because it is counter-intuitive.
Longer hair needs more bundles, not fewer
Hair tapers as it grows. A 26″ bundle and an 18″ bundle both weigh 100g, but the 26″ bundle spreads that weight over more length — so it carries less at the tip. Buy the same number of bundles at 26″ as you would at 18″ and the install looks thin at the ends. This is the single most common ordering mistake.
The table
| Length | Full head | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 8″ – 14″ | 2 bundles | Our two-item minimum covers this |
| 16″ – 18″ | 2 – 3 bundles | 3 if you want visible fullness |
| 20″ – 24″ | 3 bundles | Standard for most installs |
| 26″ – 30″ | 3 – 4 bundles | 4 for dense or blunt styles |
Things that push you up a bundle
- Curly and kinky textures. They draw up, so you need more to reach the same visible length and density.
- A blunt cut. Blunt ends need weight at the tip — add a bundle or move to double drawn.
- Leaving hair out. A larger leave-out means the wefts must be fuller to blend.
- Thick natural hair. You are matching density, not just covering.
Things that pull you down a bundle
- Super Double Drawn. Uniform density root to tip means each bundle carries more usable hair.
- A partial install or top-up. Two is usually plenty.
If you are between two lengths, size up
You can always cut. You cannot add length to a bundle that arrived shorter than you pictured — and on curly textures the draw-up means the measurement and the mirror rarely agree.
Questions we get asked
Why do longer lengths need more bundles?
Because hair tapers. The same 100g spread over a longer bundle carries less weight at the tip, so the ends look thin without an extra bundle.
Do curly textures need more bundles?
Generally yes. Curl draws up, so you need more hair to reach the same visible length and fullness.
Do I need fewer double drawn bundles?
Often. Double drawn keeps its density to the tip, so each bundle contributes more to the finished install.
